Before meeting Prince, Judith Hill had already established herself in the music industry as a backing vocalist for Michael Jackson (a role that was documented in 20 Feet From Stardom) and a finalist on NBC's The Voice. But it was traveling to Paisley Park and working in the studio with Prince that finally gave Judith the opportunity to record her first solo album.
Within a few weeks of recording the organic and funky Back in Time at Paisley Park, Prince and Judith Hill released it as a suprise download from Live Nation, complete with a personal message from Prince: "Sorry 2 bother U. Just wanted 2 send U this baby picture of Judith Hill with her 1st piano... Please spend some time with this music and then share it with someone U love."
Rather than being cooped up in a studio in a traditional way, it was all about bringing it back to the live music and the old-school way of doing it. I felt really honored to have learned so much from him in that process.”
