In 2009, Prince partnered with the Minneapolis retailer Target to release an exclusive three-CD set of new music, which included his two new albums Lotusflow3r and MPLSound and the debut album by his protége, the singer, model, and dancer Bria Valente.
Prince and Bria first collaborated in the studio during the recording of 2007's Planet Earth, to which she contributed backing vocals, and their musical partnership blossomed into Elixer, and album co-written by both artists. Describing the sound of the album to the Guardian in 2009, Prince noted that it was inspired by mellow, quiet storm R&B. "We got sick of waiting for Sade to make a new album," he said.
Remember those old Barry White records? A whole lot of people are gonna get pregnant off of this!”

Packaged together with Lotusflow3r and MPLSound, the three-CD set debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200, and hit number 1 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and the Billboard Independent Albums chart. Elixer is Bria Valente's only album, and was her final musical collaboration with Prince.
